Interview with Summerana Sponsored Reset Conference Speaker: Pamela Salai Photography

Introducing Pamela Salai of Pamela Salai Photography who is going to be a speaker at the The Reset Conference 2020 and who we at Summerana are sponsoring! We are lucky that not only do we get to learn from her at the event, but we also got to sit her down for an interview!

Pamela Salai an internationally and nationally published natural light photographer located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Here are some questions we asked:

Hey Pamela, Congratulations on being chosen to be a speaker at this year’s Reset Conference. Are you excited?

I am so excited! Teaching at a conference has been one of my goals and to have reached that goal for 2020 just sets my soul on fire.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you were chosen to be a speaker at a huge event like The Reset Conference.

I am the owner of Pamela Salai Photography in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My children, like many of you, were the catalyst for my photography journey. I specialize in sessions that tell a natural yet whimsical story. By learning my clients, I build a story and bring it to life through location, clothing, and props. My work has been described by others as whimsical, unique and playful. My goal is to not only offer beautiful quality photos and memories that last a lifetime but also a unique and fun experience. Beautiful locations, styling, and lots of giggles are just a few of the perks of working with me. I have been an artist & a dreamer for as long as I can remember too, it’s just who I am. I was a hobbyist through high school and continued through my college years. I have been professionally shooting for 8 years.

I am always on the lookout for applications to speak and had a couple of friends in the past speak at the conference who also speak so highly of it (it’s a conference that has been described as “an industry secret”).  I have been told so many amazing things about this conference and the other speakers that are presenting … I am in awe!

I submitted my application to speak on The Magic Factory | Child based photography (which is my class’ name) and this is what I said:

“When you choose a child portrait session with Pamela Salai Photography, you are choosing IMAGINATION; you are choosing MAGIC; unique concepts are created by stepping into the singular world of a child. with what your child loves or knows RIGHT NOW in mind (based on our pre-consultation and client questionnaire), I will design a session your child will remember forever. Child portrait sessions are for children age 1 year through 16 years. Capturing this time for your child is of the utmost importance. Years from now, they will relive and remember. Perhaps your darling loves pink, or unicorns … airplanes, reading, or swinging all the way up to the sky … allow me to freeze these moments in time for you, for them, and for future generations. “THE MAGIC OF CHILDHOOD IS TO BE CAPTURED, CHERISHED, AND TREASURED FOR YEARS TO COME”

and I received a response back that I was a top pick. I was so excited to even be considered than when I got the acceptance email I pretty much screamed in happiness!

You can get your conference ticket now online here. Use the code: PAMELA to get $50 off as well as be entered into a raffle that Summerana is giving away a FREE 1 YEAR’S access to the Summerana Membership (ONLY people that use code: PAMELA at checkout will be entered).

I will be leading a Styled Shoot: “April’s showers, May’s Flowers” immediately after the conference on Monday, March 30, 2020, at 8:00a (which will fall at sunrise golden hour). I am really excited about adding this to my speaking role because I can really show people how to implement the tools I will be teaching in my Magic Factory Class. My adorable twin daughters will be the models and Little Dreamers tutu are creating dresses for the girls to wear designed around the styled board.

I will be focusing on how to create magic with a theme designed around what children love. You can sign up now online through www.theresetconference.com (only 10 tickets are available for each styled shoot, so act FAST).

Your work is stunning and we know that you are an amazing natural light photographer, what are the rules in this type of photography? Do you always follow them?

Thank you so much! I am not much of a rule-breaker – I think I sometimes unintentionally do it and it works. However, I would LOVE to teach more about my shooting techniques if you come to The reset conference.

If you could have dinner with any person (dead or alive) who would it be? And why?

I am so bad at questions like these. There are so many people I admire in my industry and in my life. It would be so hard to narrow someone down. However, I feel like it would be a family member that passed so I could sit down and ask questions about my heritage. I find it so amazing where we come from, what makes us who we are today and even what we look like.

Tell us something funny that has happened during one of your sessions.

I have so many good ones! I think the most shocking yet funny ones would be when I asked the parents what music to play at their daughter’s 1st birthday session and they said “2Pac ” I certainly wasn’t judging because I love some old school rap. I think I was more shocked that a 1-year-old was jamming out to it.

Finish the sentence; “If I could live 200 years I would spend 100 of them ______________”.

TRAVELING!

What helps you relax before a big day?

Relax? What is that ahahahah? I am an Aquarius – I don’t think we know how to relax. We tend to be BIG THINKERS and can’t get out our own heads!

How would your family describe you in 5 words?

Lover of goofiness, adventure, love.

Your favorite quote?

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”

― Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
